[Abduction & Murder of Civilian] NIA files supplementary chargesheet against CPI(M) member before Special Court in Patna

On November 2, 2018, Bhokta was abducted and taken to a "Jan Adalat" in the Aurangabad Gaya area, where on orders of a "Kangaroo Court", he was murdered, and his body was discovered near a village in Badhai Bigha, Aurangabad District, Bihar.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday i.e. February 25 filed the third chargesheet before NIA Court, Patna against an armed CPI (Maoist) cadre in the case of the abduction and murder of one Naresh Singh Bhokta.

Bhokta was abducted on November 2, 2018, and taken to a “Jan Adalat” in the Aurangabad Gaya area where a “Kangaroo Court” comprising of the top leadership of CPI (Maoist) issued instructions to their cadres to kill Naresh after declaring him as a police informer. He was murdered on the night of November 2, 2018, and his body was found near a village in Badhai Bigha, Aurangabad District, Bihar.

On June 24, 2022, the NIA took over the investigation of the case. An FIR was initially registered at Madanpur Police Station, Aurangabad. “Earlier 3 Chargesheets have been filed against 7 accused by the State Police on 26.01.2019, 28.12.2019 and 30.11.2021”, the NIA press release stated

The chargesheeted accused namely Ajay Singh Bhokta has been charged under Sections 120B, 121A, 364, 471, and 302 of the Indian Penal Code, Sections 25(1A) and 27 of the Arms Act, and Sections 13, 16, 18, 20, 38, and 39 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. As per NIA’s investigations he along with other CPI (Maoist) cadres, was actively involved in the abduction and murder of Naresh Singh Bhokta.  Ajay was arrested on September 1, 2022. 

The agency stated that the weapons used in the incident had been seized and their forensic examination had been completed and three vehicles used in the incident by CPI (Maoist) cadres had also been recovered and seized.

“During its investigations, NIA has also been able to unearth the involvement of top CPI (Maoist) commanders, including a Politburo member in the conspiracy for this brutal murder, which was done to create terror in the society while propagating the false and fallacious ideology of People's War against the State”, the press release read.
