[CMC Vellore Ragging Case] "It may become contagious and Spread to other institutes": Madras High Court
The court has taken suo motu cognizance of the issue ragging after the recent incident at the Christian Medical College, Vellore.
;The Madras High Court while hearing the suo motu matter over the issue ragging incident in the Christian Medical College, Vellore said that if such incidents keep happening in such colleges, then it may become contagious and spread in other institutions as well.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice T Raja and Justice D Krishnakumar said that these incidents are occurring despite their being anti-ragging squads and committees.
The bench was hearing a matter wherein the court has taken suo-motu cognizance of the recent ragging incident in the CMC, Vellore. The junior students of CMC Vellore were forced to parade half-naked in the campus and mimic sexual acts.
Counsel appearing for the College informed the bench that the anti-ragging committee has initiated an inquiry and suspended seven students. The bench was also informed that an FIR in relation to the incident has also been filed.
The Court opined that the warden as well shall be held liable for the incident. Counsel further submitted that the college has no tolerance policy for such incidents and the senior students will be expelled from the college in case they are found guilty.
The bench said that the interest of the junior students must be protected otherwise they'll resort to extreme steps.
The bench has adjourned the matter as the inquiry in the matter is pending.
