Delhi Court Extends Judicial Custody Of Sushil Kumar Till July 9, 2021
The Delhi Court today has extended Sushil Kumar’s judicial custody till July 9 in a murder case. He has also been shifted from Mandoli Jail to Tihar Jail No 2.
Kumar on Friday was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Mayank Aggarwal at the end of the 14-day judicial custody.
The Delhi Court on June 10, had dismissed wrestler Sushil Kumar’s application who is currently in Judicial Custody in Tihar Jail seeking permission to be provided with supplements and special food in prison.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satvir Singh Lamba while rejecting Kumar’s application observed that,
“It is well settled law that all the persons, whether natural or juristic are equal in the eyes of law irrespective of their caste, religion, sex, class, etc. Right to equality is a basic feature of Indian Constitution. It implies the rule of law. It also implies absence of any special privilege in any person due to his rank, status, whether rich or poor, etc. The law should be equal and should be equally administered, that like should be treated alike.”
On May 29, 2021, Duty Metropolitan Magistrate Mayank Goyal had remanded wrestler Sushil Kumar and his associate Ajay Kumar accused of criminal charges against a junior wrestler to 4 days police custody.
Sushil Kumar and his associate Ajay Kumar, a physical education teacher at Chhatrasal Stadium were arrested by Delhi Police on Sunday from Mundka Area.
On May 18, ASJ Jagdish Kumar, Rohini Court, while rejecting Sushil’s anticipatory bail application had observed that charges against the accused were of a serious nature and the FIR revealed a prima facie case against the accused.
It is alleged that wrestler Sushil Kumar engaged in an argument, followed by an armed fight with the deceased on the intervening night of May 4 and May 5, 2021.
While Sagar Rana succumbed to death on May 5, his friends sustained grave injuries.
Delhi Police issued a Look Out Circular against the accused on May 10 and had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on any information related to his whereabouts.
On May 15, NBWs were issued against the Accused and nine others related to the present matter.
