Delhi High Court Bids Farewell to Justices Arun Monga and Tara Vitasta Ganju on Transfer
The Delhi High Court today bid farewell to Justices Arun Monga and Tara Vitasta Ganju, who have been transferred to the Rajasthan High Court and the Karnataka High Court, respectively.
Justice Monga was elevated to the Delhi High Court on July 21, 2025, while Justice Ganju was appointed to the Bench on May 18, 2022. The Central Government notified its transfers on October 14.
Addressing the Full Court, Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya said the gathering was to bid farewell to the two judges on their transfer from the Court.
Reflecting on Justice Monga’s journey, the Chief Justice said he had studied law at Panjab University in Chandigarh, where he was a bright student who excelled in academics. While pursuing law, he also enjoyed teaching chemistry at a school.
Justice Monga began his legal career at the Punjab and Haryana High Court before shifting his practice to Delhi in 1997, where he worked for over two decades. The Chief Justice said that Justice Monga is a relief-oriented judge who listens patiently and decides decisively. He added that Justice Monga does not hesitate to make course corrections, which reflects his judicial approach. The Chief Justice added that the institution had benefited from his contribution and remembered him as an avid sportsperson and a natural enthusiast.
Speaking about Justice Ganju, the Chief Justice said she is known for her ability to grasp the core issues in every matter that comes before her. He expressed confidence that her posting in Karnataka would offer her the opportunity to experience diverse litigation and litigants in a different cultural setting.
He concluded by noting that both judges have a long judicial career ahead and extended his best wishes to them.
Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma also spoke at the farewell and said the Court bids them farewell with love, warmth, and good wishes. He wished both judges happiness and prosperity in their new assignments.
Speaking next, Justice Monga said that when he first took the oath as a judge, a senior colleague had advised him to let his judgments speak. He added that over the years he had realised that a judge’s true voice lies not in public speeches but in the reasoning and restraint reflected in his judgments.
Recalling his early days in Delhi, he said he was struck by the brilliance of the Bar and the judges when he first walked into the High Court. What seemed risky at first turned out to be one of the best decisions of his life, he said. He added that Delhi had been remarkably kind to outsiders and that the Bar had soon adopted him as one of its own.
In her address, Justice Ganju said change is an inseparable part of life, but saying goodbye to the Court stirred deep emotions. Reflecting back on her days, the judge added that the place had shaped not only her career but also her understanding of justice. She described her years at the Court as among the most fulfilling and that she hoped to continue serving the cause of justice in the same spirit and emotion that the Delhi High Court embodies.
Thanking her colleagues and members of the Bar for their affection and goodwill, Justice Ganju said every ending carries the promise of return. It is not a goodbye but a pause, not a conclusion, she added, ending her remarks with the words, “Until we see each other again.”
