Following TMC MLA’s letter seeking removal of Justice Bindal of Calcutta High Court, Mamata Banerjee says Governor of state be removed
In a press conference today as reported by ANI, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with regards to the letters written by her seeking removal of West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said,
“I have already said and you know why some journalist against whom an FIR has been registered in the UP case had sent me details of a Governor whose name was in the Hawala Jain Diaries Case. They had gone to Court and got it cleared but again a PIL is there and has not been finalised.
He is a corrupted man. I am sorry to say. All corruption oriented man. How can the Central Government allow a Governor like this. I don't know about the Central Government but i am saying, take out the chargesheet, you'll know if his name was there or not.”
Immediately after the CBI had arrested the four Trinamool Leaders including two ministers (a former minister and a former Mayor in the Narada Scam) on May 17, 2021, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had written to President and Prime Minister demanding a change of Governor in the interest of "good governance " in the state .
In her letter she had alleged that the Governor was ranking up an 'exaggerated version' of violence in West Bengal since the election. The letter further stated that,
“The whole exercise is to project a ' highly inflated version ' of the law and order situation in West Bengal, overlooking the fact that the incidents happened when the control of administration was not in our hands. In a similar development, under "urgent" and "dire" circumstances, TMC MLA and the Bar Council of West Bengal Chairman had written a letter to the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana seeking immediate removal of Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Rajesh Bindal on some grounds. The letter touched upon the alleged "disgruntled past" of Justice Bindal, stating that he was earlier appointed as the Acting CJ of Jammu & Kashmir high Court on November 19, 2018 and it was due to his behaviour and attitude that the Jammu & Kashmir High Bar Association had resolved to boycott the Court on or around September 16, 2019. "Within a year, the lawyers at Jammu & Kashmir were fed up of his Lordships antics," says the letter.
