Gangster Sandeep alias Kala Jatheri was brought back to Delhi’s Central Jail on Sunday after completing a seven-hour custody parole to visit his native village Jatheri in Sonipat, Haryana, and participate in religious ceremonies following the birth of his twin daughters through IVF.
Jatheri was taken from Central Jail, Delhi, to his village under police custody and remained there from 10 AM to 5 PM on September 20, as permitted by the Dwarka Court.
Additional Sessions Judge Siddharth Malik, on September 16, had allowed an application seeking custody parole for Jatheri to visit his family at village Jatheri.
“Accordingly, the application filed on behalf of applicant Sandeep alias Kala for custody parole is allowed,” the court ordered.
The court permitted Jatheri to visit his house in village Jatheri on September 20 between 10 AM and 5 PM on custody parole.
Delhi, Haryana police directed to ensure security
Considering the threat perception associated with Jatheri, the court directed the Delhi and Haryana Police to make necessary security arrangements for the visit.
The court specifically directed the DCP, 3rd Battalion, Delhi Police, SHO, PS BHD Nagar, and SHO, PS Rai, Sonipat, Haryana, to facilitate the custody parole after assessing the threat perception related to the accused.
The court also directed that all expenses incurred in connection with the custody parole would be borne by Jatheri and deposited with the concerned Jail Superintendent in accordance with the applicable rules.
During the permitted seven-hour period, Jatheri participated in the religious ceremonies at his native village following the birth of his twin daughters.
After the custody parole ended at 5 PM, police personnel escorted him back to Delhi’s Central Jail.
Sandeep alias Kala Jatheri is an accused in several criminal cases and is currently lodged in Delhi’s Central Jail.
Background
Kala Jatheri was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in July 2021 from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. At the time of his arrest, a reward of ₹7 lakh had been announced for information leading to his apprehension.
Jatheri was wanted by the police in Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab in connection with several criminal cases, including cases involving allegations of murder, extortion and other serious offences.
According to his police history sheet, his name had surfaced during the investigation into the March 25, 2021, shooting incident at GTB Hospital. He was also linked by investigators to the probe into the murder of wrestler Sagar Dhankad at Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium, a case in which Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar and several others were arrested.
Jatheri is related to Sonu Mahal, who was allegedly assaulted along with Dhankad on the night of May 4, 2021. Police had also stated that Sushil Kumar had previously been associated with Jatheri but that differences later emerged between them following the Chhatrasal Stadium incident.
Jatheri had earlier escaped from Haryana Police custody in February 2020. Police have alleged that he was involved in multiple murder cases and had built a criminal network operating across the Delhi-NCR and Haryana region.
According to police, Jatheri had earlier operated from Sonipat and was later believed to have moved between Dubai and Bangkok. Investigators had also alleged links between his network and members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
