Police registered a murder case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after a missing complaint led to the arrest of the woman's husband and his alleged girlfriend.
Gurugram Police arrested a man and his alleged girlfriend in the murder of his wife.
A murder case has been registered by the Gurugram Police against a 25-year-old man and his alleged girlfriend for the killing of his wife, who had been married for barely three months. The accused were subsequently produced before the competent court, which remanded them to five days' police custody for further interrogation and recovery of evidence
The case, which originated from a missing person complaint lodged by the victim's mother, culminated in the arrest of the accused after the police uncovered a conspiracy to murder the woman.
According to the media reports, the accused, identified as Ankit (25), a resident of Manesar, Gurugram, and Rajni Devi (38), a resident of Aurangabad village in Haryana's Jhajjar district, had been in a relationship for nearly three years before Ankit married the deceased in February this year. Investigators allege that the two conspired to eliminate the woman so they could continue their relationship.
Missing complaint led to murder investigation
The criminal proceedings commenced on May 22 when the victim's mother approached the Manesar Police Station alleging that her 22-year-old daughter had been missing since May 21. She stated that despite repeated inquiries, her daughter's in-laws were unable to provide any satisfactory explanation regarding her whereabouts.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation. During the probe, investigators examined technical evidence, questioned witnesses and tracked the movements of the victim and those connected with her. According to the police, the investigation eventually pointed towards the victim's husband and Rajni Devi.
Police allege woman was taken to rented room and shot dead
As per the investigation, Ankit allegedly took his wife to Rajni Devi's rented accommodation in Manesar on May 21, where she was allegedly shot dead. Police claim the murder was premeditated and carried out pursuant to a conspiracy between the two accused.
Investigators further allege that after committing the offence, the accused attempted to conceal the crime by leaving the victim's body inside the rented accommodation before fleeing the State.
Accused allegedly fled to Nepal
According to the police, Ankit and Rajni fled to Nepal immediately after the alleged murder to evade arrest. They allegedly remained there for nearly a month before returning to India.
Acting on intelligence regarding their return, the Gurugram Police apprehended both accused. During interrogation, police claim to have gathered further details regarding the alleged conspiracy and the sequence of events leading to the victim's death.
Investigation continues
The police have booked the accused under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to murder and other allied offences. The investigation is continuing to recover the weapon allegedly used in the offence, examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged conspiracy, and determine whether any other person was involved.
Both accused are presently in police custody, and further investigation is underway.
