[Hindu Priest Attack] NIA files chargesheet against four accused including two Canada-based KTF operatives

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday i.e. July 4, 2022, filed a charge sheet before the NIA Special Court, Mohali against four accused persons in a Hindu priest attack case.

The accused are:

• Harshdeep Singh Nijjar under Section 120B read with 307 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 16, 17, 18, 18B & 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
• Arshdeep Singh under Section 120B read with 307 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 16, 17, 18, 18B, 21 &23 of UA (P) Act.
• Kamaljeet Sharma under Section 120B read with 307 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 16, 17, 18, 18B, 21 &23 of UA (P) Act, Section 27(1) of Arms Act.
• Ram Singh under Section 120B read with 307, 201 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 16, 17, 18, 20, 21 &23 of UA (P) Act, Section 27(1) of Arms Act.

The case pertains to the attack on a Hindu priest Kamaldeep Sharma at village Bhar Singh Pura, Phillaur, District Jalandhar by accused Kamaljeet Sharma @Kamal and Ram Singh @Sona on the directions of Canada-based accused persons namely Arshdeep Singh @Arsh @ Prabh and Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

As per the NIA press release, the case was initially registered on January 31, 2021, at Phillaur police station, Jalandhar, and then re-registered by NIA on October 8, 2021.

Investigations have revealed the entire conspiracy was hatched by accused Arshdeep Singh and Hardeep Singh Nijjar, both based in Canada, to disturb the peace and disrupt the communal harmony in Punjab by killing a Hindu Priest.

A press release issued by the agency states that the arrested accused Kamaljeet Sharma and Ram Singh @Sona had shot at the victim Kamaldeep Singh, on the directions of Canada-based Arshdeep Singh @Arsh.
