[Kulgam Sarpanch’s targeted killing] NIA files chargesheet against 6 Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists
The case pertains to the targeted killing of the Sarpanch of village Adoora, Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir namely Shabir Ahmad Mir by six Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorists.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday i.e. September 9, 2022, filed chargesheet before the NIA Special Court, Jammu against six Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) members in connection with a case related to the targeted killing of Shabir Ahmad Mir, the Sarpanch of village Adoora, Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Investigations have revealed that the handlers of the proscribed terrorist organization operating from Pakistan plotted a criminal conspiracy with terrorist associates/OGWs and its members active in Kashmir Valley to carry out the targeted killing of the Sarpanch.
“Apart from this incident, carrying out targeted killings in Kashmir Valley was part of a larger conspiracy by terrorists of HM and other proscribed terrorist outfits to disrupt peace and the democratic process established by the Panchayati Raj System in Kashmir Valley, as well as to instill fear among politically elected representatives”, the NIA press release stated.
The six chargesheeted accused are:
- Danish Ayaz Dar under Section 302 r/w 120B & 121A of IPC, sections 16, 18, 19, 20, 38 & 39 UA (P) Act, 1967 and Section 25 (1B) (a) of Arms Act,1959.
- Faisal Hameed Wagay under Section 302 r/w 120B & 121A of IPC, sections 16, 18, 19, 20, 38 & 39 UA (P) Act, 1967 and Section 25 (1B) (a) of Arms Act, 1959.
- Nisar Rashid Bhat @ Nasir under Section 302 r/w 120B & 121A of IPC, sections 16, 18, 19, 20, 38 & 39 UA (P) Act, 1967, Section 25 (1B) (a) of Arms Act, 1959 and sections 4 & 5 of Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
- Zubair Ahmad Sofi (now killed) Charges shall be abated against the slain terrorist.
- Mushtaq Ahmad Itoo (absconding) under Section 302 r/w 120B & 121A of IPC, Sections 16, 18, 20, 38 & 39 UA (P) Act, 1967 and section 27 of Arms Act, 1959.
- Farooq Ahmad Bhat @ Farooq Nalli (absconding) under Section 302 r/w 120 B & 121 A of IPC; Sections 16, 18, 20, 38 & 39 UA (P) Act, 1967 and section 27 of Arms Act, 1959.
As per the NIA press release the case was initially registered on March 11, 2022, at Kulgam Police station in Jammu and Kashmir and later re-registered by NIA on April 8, 2022.
