NIA Court Ernakulam convicts 3 in ISIS Valapattanam Case
The case was initially registered on October 25, 2017, at Valapattnam Police Station and later was taken over for probe by the NIA in December. After investigation, the central agency filed its charge sheet against four persons on 21 April 2018.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court, Ernakulam on Tuesday i.e. July 12, 2022, convicted three persons accused of providing support to ISIS/Daish.
The three accused are namely:
- Midlaj under Sections 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Sections 125 of IPC, 38, and 39 of UA (P) Act.
- Abdul Razak under Section 38 of UA (P) Act and Section 120B of IPC read with Sections 125 of IPC, 38, and 39 of UA (P) Act.
- Hamsa under Sections 38 and 39 of the UA (P) Act and Section 120B of IPC read with Sections 125 of IPC, 38, and 39 of UA (P) Act.
As per the NIA press release, the case was initially registered on October 25, 2017, at Valapattanam Police Station, Kerala, and later was taken over for investigation by NIA on December 16, 2017.
“After thorough investigation, a charge-sheet was filed by NIA on April 21, 2018, against 4 accused persons, out of which above mentioned 3 have been convicted,” the NIA press release stated.
The NIA press release further stated that the three convicted were members of the prescribed terrorist organization and were attempting to travel out of India to join ISIS/Daish in Syria to fight for their cause.
