NIA files chargesheet against four with suspected ISIS links in Tamil Nadu

The case pertains to a conspiracy involving five accused individuals for threatening people and police officials, as well as attempting to murder police officers on February 21, 2022, during a vehicle inspection.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday i.e. August 18, 2022, filed a charge sheet before the NIA Special Court, Chennai against four men in connection with their suspected ISIS links.

The case involves a conspiracy by five accused individuals for threatening people and police officials, as well as attempting to murder police officers during a vehicle inspection on February 21, 2022.

As per the NIA press release, the accused were also involved in spreading hatred and conspiracy for the secession of a part of India and to disrupt the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India by forming outfits such as “Khilafah Party of India”, “Khilafah Front of India”, “Intellectual Students of India” and associating themselves with the proscribed terrorist organizations, including ISIS/ Daesh, Al Qaeda and National Thowheed Jamaat of Sri Lanka.

Investigations have revealed that the chargesheeted accused had held conspiracy meetings in Trivandrum, Kerala, and Mannadi, Chennai to recruit members for the Khilafah Party of India and other outfits floated by Sathik Batcha and R. Ashiq along the lines of proscribed terrorist organizations such as ISIS, Al Qaeda, and the NTJ of Sri Lanka.

“During the investigation, incriminating material was discovered, revealing that the accused were in contact with ISIS handlers and were using ISIS and NTJ-related text, images, messages, magazines, and videos to indoctrinate and radicalize gullible youth,” the NIA press release stated.

The four accused and charges against them are:

  1. Sathik Batcha @ Sathik Batcha Thuraabhi @ ICAMA Sathik u/s 120 B, 353, 506 (ii) of IPC and Sections 13 (1) (b), 18, 38 and 39 of UA (P) Act, 1967 and Sec 28 of Arms Act 1959.
  2. R. Ashiq @ Mohammed Ashiq Elahi u/s 120 B of IPC and Sections 13 (1) (b), 18, 38 and 39 of UA (P) Act, 1967.
  3. A. Mohamed Irfan u/s 120 B of IPC and sections 18 and 39 of UA (P) Act, 1967.
  4. Rahamathulla @ Rahamath U/s 120 B, 279, 353 and 506-Para II of IPC and Sections 18 and 39 of UA (P) Act, 1967

As per the NIA press release, the case was initially registered on February 21, 2022, at Mayiladuthurai, Police Station, and re-registered by NIA on April 30, 2022.
