Punjab Floods: DHCBA Voices Concern, Extends Solidarity to Affected Families
DHCBA said it stands in solidarity with flood-hit residents and conveys heartfelt condolences to families who have lost loved ones
Floods: Delhi High Court Bar Association Expresses Solidarity
Amid the recent floods in Punjab and other parts of the country, the Executive Committee of the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) expressed deep concern over the destruction caused by the disaster.
According to a notice issued on Monday, the Committee said it was anguished at the “unprecedented devastation caused by the recent floods in the state of Punjab and other parts of the country, which have resulted in extensive loss of life and property."
Notably, Punjab is currently facing one of the worst floods in recent decades due to the swelling of major rivers such as the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi. The situation has been aggravated by extreme monsoon rainfall in the northern hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, along with excess water releases from the Pong and Bhakra dams, leading to severe downstream flooding.
So far, at least 48 people have lost their lives, while more than 2,000 villages across Punjab have been inundated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Punjab on Tuesday, September 9, to review the situation and ongoing relief measures.
Meanwhile, the situation in Delhi has brought a measure of relief after days of anxiety, as the Yamuna River finally receded below the danger mark.
Expressing solidarity with those impacted, the DHCBA said,” ....The Executive Committee of the Delhi High Court Bar Association stands in solidarity with the residents of the affected regions in this hour of grave distress and conveys its heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones."
The Committee also asked the members of the Bar to come forward and contribute generously for relief efforts, it added,” The Executive Committee calls upon all its members to come forward in this moment of crisis and extend their wholehearted contributions, so that essential assistance by way of food, shelter, and medical aid may be provided to the victims of this tragedy...”
The floods this season have devastated not only Punjab but also Himachal Pradesh and parts of Haryana, displacing thousands of families and further damaging infrastructure.
