A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to businessman Robert Vadra in the Enforcement Directorate’s money laundering case linked to the controversial Shikohpur land deal in Haryana.

Special Judge Sushant Changotra of the Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to Vadra on furnishing a surety bond of ₹50,000 after he appeared before the court in compliance with summons issued earlier upon cognisance of the ED’s chargesheet.

The Court clarified that no additional conditions were being imposed while granting relief. “I am asking to file a bail bond, not any other considerations,” the judge observed during the hearing.

The Enforcement Directorate had filed its prosecution complaint without arresting Vadra. Appearing virtually for the agency, ED counsel Zoheb Hossain informed the court that a status report was being filed in compliance with earlier directions.

He also sought two weeks’ time to submit another detailed status report, saying further investigation in the matter was still underway.

The ED further informed the court that Vadra and other accused persons had challenged the trial court’s order taking cognisance of the chargesheet before the Delhi High Court.

The matter has now been listed for further hearing on July 10.

What is the Shikohpur land deal case?

The case arises from an FIR registered in September 2018 over alleged irregularities in a land transaction involving a 3.5-acre plot in Haryana’s Shikohpur village in Gurugram. According to the ED, a company linked to Vadra allegedly purchased the land from Omkareshwar Properties in February 2008 for ₹7.5 crore and later sold it to DLF for ₹58 crore.

The agency suspects the transaction generated proceeds of crime and formed part of a larger money laundering operation. The prosecution complaint filed by the ED in July 2025 named Vadra along with several individuals and entities.

The original FIR also named former Haryana Chief Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, besides a property dealer and a real estate company. Allegations in the case include corruption, cheating and forgery.

Notably, in April, the Court had taken cognisance of a prosecution complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Vadra.

In a related news, in 2022, the Court had accepted Robert Vadra’s explanations that he stayed in Dubai for a medical emergency in August 2022, while traveling to the UK via UAE. Special Judge Neelofer Abida Perveen of the Rouse Avenue Court, Delhi had noted that Vadra tendered an unqualified and unconditional apology for the lapse, which is accepted in the circumstances mentioned in the affidavit, but he is warned to be cautious in the future. The show cause notice has thus been discharged.

On September 19, 2022, the Special Judge had expressed displeasure with Vadra’s explanations that he stayed in Dubai for a medical emergency in August 2022, while traveling to the UK via UAE. The Court further stated that it was a violation of the terms and conditions of the permission granted to him. The Court had also issued a show cause notice to Vadra in which he is required to explain why the FDR deposited in accordance with the order dated August 12, 2022, should not be forfeited for violating the terms and conditions of the permission granted to him.
