Twisha Sharma Death Case: Custody Of Husband, Ex-Judge Giribala Singh Extended Till June 30

A Bhopal court on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, former judge Giribala Singh, by 14 days in connection with the investigation into Sharma’s death and allegations of dowry-related harassment.

The order was passed by Judge Shobhana Bhalave after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought continuation of the accused persons’ judicial custody till June 30. The court allowed the request, and both accused will continue to remain lodged in Bhopal Central Jail.

Counsel for Sharma’s family, Ankur Pandey, said both accused appeared before the court through virtual mode during the hearing. Their earlier 14-day judicial custody, ordered on June 2, was scheduled to expire on June 16.

According to the CBI, statements of several individuals are still pending and may be important to the investigation. The agency also informed the court that electronic evidence collected in the case is being examined and that forensic reports received so far are under scrutiny. Some reports are still awaited, including the second post-mortem report. Investigators further stated that, depending on the findings that emerge, the accused may be required for further questioning at a later stage.

The case relates to the death of 33-year-old former actor and model Twisha Sharma, who was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. Following allegations of lapses and irregularities in the initial investigation, the matter was subsequently handed over to the CBI for a detailed probe.

The first post-mortem examination reportedly concluded that Sharma died due to “antemortem hanging by ligature.” The report also recorded “multiple antemortem injuries (simple in nature possible by blunt force over other parts of the body have been noted),” raising further questions that are now part of the ongoing investigation.

Based on the post-mortem findings and statements provided by Sharma’s family members, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on May 15. The FIR contains allegations that Sharma was subjected to harassment by her in-laws over dissatisfaction with the dowry given at the time of her marriage on December 9, 2025.

Her family has alleged that she faced mental harassment and domestic violence at her matrimonial home and was subjected to sustained pressure by her in-laws. They have further claimed that these circumstances ultimately drove her to take the extreme step.

The FIR also refers to a phone call Sharma allegedly made to her mother at around 9:41 pm on the day of the incident. According to the family’s statement, her husband could allegedly be heard shouting in the background before the call was suddenly disconnected.

The extension of judicial custody comes as the CBI continues to examine the circumstances surrounding Sharma’s death and the allegations levelled by her family. The agency is expected to continue gathering evidence, recording statements, and scrutinising the sequence of events leading up to the incident as the investigation progresses.
