CJI Surya Kant Visits Kedarnath Temple; Offers Prayers With Family

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant visited the revered Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand on May 30, 2026, accompanied by his family. During the visit, he offered prayers at the ancient Himalayan temple of Lord Shiva and sought blessings at one of Hinduism’s holiest pilgrimage sites.

CJI Kant, who assumed office as the 53rd Chief Justice of India in November 2025, undertook the pilgrimage amid the ongoing Char Dham Yatra season. Kedarnath, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and a key pilgrimage destination in India, draws lakhs of devotees every year and holds immense spiritual significance.

Visuals from the visit showed the CJI participating in temple rituals and paying obeisance at the shrine against the backdrop of the snow-clad Himalayas. Reports noted that the visit was private and spiritual in nature, with the CJI spending time at the temple premises and taking part in customary prayers.

Kedarnath Dham, located in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district at an altitude of over 11,000 feet, remains a symbol of faith and resilience. The CJI’s visit added to the list of prominent personalities paying respects at the sacred shrine during this year’s pilgrimage season. The portals of Kedarnath Dham were opened on April 22.
