ISRO Espionage Case: CBI moves Supreme Court seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to former Gujarat DGP R.B. Sreekumar, 3 others
The CBI has moved Supreme Court seeking cancellation of Anticipatory bail granted to former Gujarat DGP R.B. Sreekumar, one of the accused in the ISRO espionage case which framed celebrated ISRO scientist Nambi Naryanan by Kerala High Court.
The CBI also sought cancellation of the anticipatory bail of other accused S Vijayan, Thambi S Durgadath and P S Jayaprakash. It has been averred that it is pertinent that the accused be interrogated in custody so that more details can be sought in the case(s), adding that serious allegations have been met out against the accused, Sreekumar.
Scientist Narayanan had informed CBI that Sreekumar had a tussle with him after he had refused to give a job to one of his relatives, following which he was told that he will regret the decision in future.
The Top Court wrapped up the DK Jain Committee which was constituted to probe into illegal arrest of Scientist Nambi Narayanan by erring officials under the Kerala Government of 1994 on July 26.
Court had noted that the CBI had found reasons to file FIRs against the erring officials but clarified that the DK Jain committee report by itself would not be the basis for proceeding further in the matter.
In September 2018, the Supreme Court had held that the prosecution initiated by Kerala Police in the 1990's in relation to the ISRO Espionage Case was maliciously moved against the Scientist, causing him immense humiliation.
