Justice Vimal Kumar Yadav Takes Oath as Delhi High Court Judge

With this appointment, working strength of the Delhi High Court has now increased to 44 judges, against a sanctioned strength of 60;

Judicial officer Vimal Kumar Yadav was sworn in as a judge of the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya administered the oath of office in a ceremony held at the High Court premises.

The appointment was confirmed through a government notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on 8 August 2025, stating, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Vimal Kumar Yadav to be a Judge of the Delhi High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

Born on January 9, 1965, Justice Yadav completed his B.Com (Hons) in 1985 and LL.B. in 1986. He went on to obtain an LL.M. in 2006, along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Laws and the Internet.

He joined the Delhi Judicial Service in 1992 and, in 2003, entered the Delhi Higher Judicial Service. Justice Yadav also served for two years as Additional Registrar in the Supreme Court of India and was on deputation from 2008 to 2010. The judge demitted office as a District and Sessions Judge, Patiala House Court, in January this year, after attaining the age of 60.

On July 30, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of judicial officer Vimal Kumar Yadav as a judge of the High Court.

With this appointment, the working strength of the High Court has now increased to 44 judges, against a sanctioned strength of 60.

On 24 July, the Delhi High Court held a swearing-in ceremony for three judicial officers who were elevated as High Court judges. The new judicial appointees were Mr. Vinod Kumar, Ms. Shail Jain, and Ms. Madhu Jain.

Earlier, on July 21, six new judges of the High Court were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya. The judges sworn in were Justice V. Kameswar Rao, Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre, Justice Vivek Chaudhary, Justice Anil Kshetarpal, Justice Arun Kumar Monga, and Justice Om Prakash Shukla.
