Plea in Supreme Court seeks deployment of Central Security Force at the Mullaperiyar dam for its protection

A impleadment application filed in a pending Melluperiyar dam matter seeks direction to deploy Central Security Force at the Mullaperiyar dam for its protection immediately.

The applicant has alleged that with the support of Kerala government, all Kerala parties and personal interested social activists may demolish the Mullaperiyar Dam any time which provides solace to lakhs of people in Tamil Nadu.

It has further stated that any of the national or international level studies and expert reports did not say that increasing water level is threat to the dam, they said only dam will not be able to withstand an earthquake of the magnitude of six on the Richter scale.

The application has been filed in a pending petition highlighting the inaction of the Supervisory Committee appointed by the Supreme Court for taking care of material and safety aspects of Mullaperiyar Dam and urging the proper monitoring of the dam.

It has further been stated that "Tamil Nadu people cannot lose its rights of drinking agriculture water over false propaganda by Kerala state government, political parties and personal interest activities."

It is alleged that "Kerala Police not allowing Tamil Nadu staff to unhindered access for the maintenance of the dam. Kerala was obstructing the free access of its officials operating and maintaining the dam since long years but allowing free passage to media persons and unsocial elements, agitators."

"the politicians are also joining the agitations. The LDF as well as UDF has called for a dawn to dusk hartal in Idukki district and entire Kerela State in very often. that every elections in Kerala Mullaperiyar ’dam safety’ makes a significant mark in the election manifesto by all political parties," the plea added.
