Pune based lawyer and Bhatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Secretary, (Maharashtra) Pradeep Gavade, has been arrested by Mumbai Police today morning for social media posts.

Reports suggest that Gavade has been brought to Bandra, Cyber Cell, West PS from his Pune residence for medical examination and that Supreme Court directives (of supplying pre-arrest notice under Section 41A CRPC not followed). He is expected to be produced before the concerned Magistrate.

According to his twitter handle, Gavade has claimed,

"it is understood that a Congress worker has lodged a complaint against me"

In this context, he has made reference to a tweet that he posted on May 9, referring to comments made by Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena leader and MP (Rajya Sabha), allegedly insulting Ahilya Devi holkar.

The Shiv Sena leader had drawn a comparison between Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the erstwhile queen of Maratha ruled Malwa kingdom with Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, shortly after Banerjee's All India Trinamool Congress won the West Bengal Elections.

Following the comments Gavade had tweeted the following,

"Sanjay @rautsanjay61, Rajmata Ahilyabai Holkar gave her life for the protection of Hindus. On the contrary, Hindus are being slaughtered under your leadership. If you want to compare Mamata, do it with your Sonia Gandhi. You do not deserve to name Rajmata Ahilyabai Holkar"

According to reports, Bhushan Singh Raje Holkar, a scion of erstwhile Holkar dynasty had written a letter to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackery, objecting to the write-up by Raut in "Saamna", a publication touted to be Shiv Sena's mouthpiece.

Recently, Gavade had been in the news for filing complaints against 54 persons who had posted alleged derogatory remarks afainst Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Maha & BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis.
