Six New Judges Sworn In at Delhi High Court
On July 14, the Central Government had notified the transfer of these six judges, following recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium;
Six new judges of the Delhi High Court were administered the oath of office on Monday, July 21, taking the court's working strength to 40.
The oath was administered by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya to six judges who have been transferred from various High Courts across the country. Justice V. Kameswar Rao was the first to take the oath.
Justice V. Kameswar Rao, recently repatriated from the Karnataka High Court, had previously served as a judge in Delhi. He was designated a Senior Advocate in January 2010, appointed as an Additional Judge on April 17, 2013, and became a Permanent Judge on March 18, 2015.
Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre, who has been transferred from the Bombay High Court, was next. He began his legal practice under Senior Advocate Sharad A. Bobde, who later became the Chief Justice of India. Justice Sambre also served as Secretary of the Nagpur High Court Bar Association. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on January 6, 2014.
Justice Vivek Chaudhary took the oath after Justice Sambre. He enrolled as an advocate in November 1988 and practiced civil and constitutional law before the Allahabad High Court and the Supreme Court. He was elevated as an Additional Judge on February 20, 2017, and became a Permanent Judge on March 14, 2018.
Also sworn in today were Justice Anil Kshetarpal, Justice Arun Kumar Monga, and Justice Om Prakash Shukla.
Justice Anil Kshetarpal, who has been transferred from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was designated a Senior Advocate in 2014 and appointed as an Additional Judge on July 10, 2017.
Justice Arun Kumar Monga, transferred from the Rajasthan High Court, had practised extensively in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. He was appointed as an Additional Judge on October 29, 2018, and confirmed as a Permanent Judge on September 11, 2020.
Justice Om Prakash Shukla previously served as Group 'A' Counsel for the Union of India and as a Senior Panel Lawyer for the State of Uttar Pradesh in the Supreme Court. He took oath as an Additional Judge on August 3, 2022, and was made a Permanent Judge on March 21, 2024.
