The Supreme Court on Monday stayed a Delhi High Court order directing the Delhi Police to provide Delhi riots accused Devangana Kalita with a copy of electronic evidence sought by her before the framing of charges in the larger conspiracy case.
Kalita had lodged two petitions challenging trial court orders that denied her requests for video footage and transcripts of WhatsApp chats. Earlier, on 2 May 2023, the Supreme Court had dismissed a Special Leave Petition filed by the Delhi Police challenging the Delhi High Court order granting bail to Devangana Kalita and the other two accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in the Delhi Riots case.
In June 2021, Kalita was granted bail by the Delhi High Court along with co-accused Asif Iqbal Tanha and Natasha Narwal.
