Synopsis

A single-judge bench directed TMC leader Anubrata Mondal's daughter Sukanya Mondal to appear in court after a plea was filed claiming that she got job of a teacher without qualifying TET exam.

The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday ordered Sukanya Mondal, daughter of TMC Birbhum District President Anubrata Mondal, to appear in court today, August 18, after a petition was filed alleging that she was hired as a teacher without passing the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET).

The petitioner claimed that six people, including Mondal, were hired as primary school teachers without taking the TET exam.

During the hearing of the PIL, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay asked for documents regarding Anubrata Mondal's relatives being hired in primary schools and thus ordered Sukanya to appear before the High Court.

According to reports, Sukanya never physically visited the school for her appointment, but the attendance register was sent to her house to mark her presence.

Earlier, on August 11, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Anubrata Mondal, a close aide to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in connection with the cattle smuggling case.

On August 5, the CBI served a summons on Mondal for questioning in connection with the cattle smuggling case.

On August 8, Mondal was summoned to the CBI office at Nizam's Palace in Kolkata.

The CBI arrested a former Border Security Force (BSF) Commandant on September 21, 2020, in connection with illegal cattle smuggling across the Indo-Bangladesh border. During the course of the investigation, Anubrata Mondal's name came up.
