Synopsis

Singhal approached the Supreme Court after the Jharkhand High Court had denied her any relief.

The Supreme Court today granted interim bail to IAS Officer Pooja Singhal on medical grounds for the treatment of her daughter.

Singhal was arrested on May 11 in a money laundering case linked to alleged embezzlement of MGNREGA funds and other charges.

A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Abhay S Oka while granting some relief to Singhal, has asked her to remain within the Delhi NCR region for her daughter's treatment.

The Enforcement Directorate has also been asked to file a reply on the bail application in three weeks' time.

Singhal was taken into custody under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act while her immovable properties worth Rs 82.77 crore were provisionally attached on money laundering charges.

Notably, the Jharkhand High Court had rejected Singhal's petition for bail while noting that there was no basis for granting bail to an IAS officer involved in corruption.
