Skyroot Aerospace Becomes India’s First Space-Tech Unicorn After USD 60 Million Funding Round
Skyroot Aerospace has secured approximately USD 60 million in a fresh funding round co-led by Sherpalo and GIC, with participation from funds managed by BlackRock, the founders of Greenko Group, Arkam Ventures, Playbook Partners and Shanghvi Family Office, marking a significant milestone for India’s rapidly expanding private space sector.
Trilegal acted as legal counsel to Skyroot Aerospace on the transaction. The transaction has propelled Skyroot Aerospace to a valuation of around USD 1.1 billion, officially conferring unicorn status on the Hyderabad-based company. With this achievement, Skyroot becomes India’s first space-tech startup to enter the unicorn club, underscoring growing investor confidence in the country’s emerging commercial space ecosystem.
Founded with the vision of building affordable and reliable launch solutions, Skyroot Aerospace has been at the forefront of India’s private space revolution. The company gained national attention following the successful launch of Vikram-S, India’s first privately developed rocket. Since then, it has continued to expand its technological capabilities and strengthen its position in the global space launch market.
The firm’s Corporate Practice Team advising on the deal was led by Partner Vishruta Kaul and included Counsel Bhavya Vatsa, Senior Associate Advaye Sawhny and Associate Saksham Gadia.
Skyroot’s elevation to unicorn status is being viewed as a landmark moment for India’s private space industry.
