Dr B.R. Ambedkar Law Internship 5.0: ABVP-Led DUSU, Adhivakta Parishad Delhi Prant Select 657 DU Students

More than 650 students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Delhi have been selected for the fifth edition of the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Law Internship, an initiative launched by the ABVP-led Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) in collaboration with Adhivakta Parishad Delhi Prant, aimed at providing aspiring lawyers with practical exposure to India's judicial system.

The selected students will begin their internship on July 1, working under advocates and legal professionals while gaining exposure to proceedings before the Supreme Court of India, the Delhi High Court and district courts across Delhi.

The orientation programme for Dr B.R. Ambedkar Law Internship 5.0 was held in Delhi on Monday, marking the launch of the latest edition of the internship programme.

The initiative is aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical legal training by providing law students with exposure to the functioning of courts and the judicial system.

Organisers said the programme received 964 applications from students of the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. Following an interview process, 657 students were selected for the internship.

Beginning July 1, the selected candidates will work under the guidance of advocates and legal experts, where they will observe court proceedings and gain exposure to legal drafting, advocacy and the functioning of the Indian judicial system.

The internship will provide students with an opportunity to observe proceedings in the courts. Participants will also interact with practising advocates as part of the programme.

Addressing the orientation programme, DUSU Secretary Kunal Chaudhary said the objective of the internship was to equip students with practical legal knowledge and help build a strong foundation for their legal careers.

"The objective of this internship is to empower students with practical knowledge and build a strong foundation for their legal careers," Chaudhary said.

He said the programme would encourage law students to contribute to the justice delivery system while strengthening constitutional values. Chaudhary also said the initiative reflected ABVP's commitment to academic excellence, professional development and leadership among students.

Speaking at the programme, Adhivakta Parishad Delhi Prant State President Sanjay Poddar said the internship would give students an opportunity to understand the judicial system through practical exposure.

"Dr B.R. Ambedkar Law Internship 5.0 is not merely an internship programme, but a platform for law students to closely understand the judicial system. Adhivakta Parishad Delhi Prant has always remained committed to mentoring young law students, enhancing their skills, and providing practical training," Poddar said.

He expressed confidence that the internship would contribute to the professional development of participating students and help prepare them for careers in the legal profession.

The Dr B.R. Ambedkar Law Internship is being held for the fifth time this year. The internship is open to students of the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.

The DUSU is the elected representative body of students at the University of Delhi. The current DUSU is led by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which secured key office-bearer posts in the most recent students' union elections. DUSU regularly organises academic, cultural and student welfare initiatives in addition to representing students on issues concerning the university.

The internship programme is named after Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Constitution of India and the chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly. A jurist, economist and social reformer, Ambedkar is widely regarded as one of India's foremost legal thinkers.

Adhivakta Parishad, which has collaborated with DUSU for the programme, is an organisation of advocates that conducts activities related to legal awareness, professional development and mentoring of law students through seminars, workshops and internship initiatives.
