Presolv360 Brings Together Judiciary, Government, Legal Experts and NITI Aayog at the Smart Resolution Summit
Presolv360 hosted its Smart Resolution Summit on Thursday, marking a significant push toward strengthening institutional arbitration and advancing technology-led frameworks for Online Dispute Resolution. The event drew together a distinguished mix of sitting and retired judges, senior government officials, and industry leaders to discuss where dispute resolution in India is headed.
The Summit opened with a keynote address from the Attorney General for India, Mr. R. Venkataramani, and continued into an extensive plenary session featuring Justice Hemant Gupta, Justice Tejas Karia and Justice J. R. Midha. A dedicated panel discussion followed, examining the policy and legal dimensions of building greater trust in institutional arbitration and online dispute resolution.
Setting the tone for the Summit in his opening keynote address, the Attorney General for India, Mr. R. Venkataramani, remarked, “The adversarial system is mechanical” adding that “we need to talk with emotion about dispute resolution.”
His address was followed by a plenary session featuring high-level remarks from Justice Hemant Gupta, Justice Tejas Karia, and Justice J. R. Midha. Speaking at the session, Justice Tejas Karia observed that “dispute resolution must continue to evolve with the needs of society.” He and Justice Hemant Gupta both spoke at length about the value of Online Dispute Resolution in resolving high volumes of disputes, pointing to industries where it is already addressing distinct dispute-resolution challenges, and urged the legal community to embrace it more widely. Justice J. R. Midha spoke to the need for greater efficiency in arbitration through the adoption of technology-driven processes.
Presolv360 also launched its AI library for Arbitration at the event, in the presence of these dignitaries. Released as an open-source tool for the arbitration community, the library is intended to speed up how practitioners and researchers find precedents, principles and insights, while giving them a way to contribute to its growing body of knowledge.
The programme then proceeded into a specialised panel discussion bringing together policy, regulatory and practitioner perspectives. Dr. Banusri Velpandian, Senior Specialist at NITI Aayog, spoke about how regulatory bodies and industry ecosystems are increasingly adopting an ODR-first approach, and linked such dispute resolution reforms to broader economic growth. Mr. Avnit Singh Arora, Director, Ministry of Law & Justice, described the various steps taken by the Government of India to promote institutional arbitration and ODR, with the twin goals of extending ADR to tier 2 and tier 3 cities and villages and establishing India as a regional and global ADR hub. Mr. Jeevan Ballav Panda, Partner at Khaitan & Co, spoke about the need for policy and regulatory measures to be matched by a shift in mindset within the legal community and the judiciary.
