The complaint states that the BJP leader made statements against Raut without any proof and that it has affected his reputation.
Shiv Sena leader of the Uddhav Thackeray faction Sanjay Raut has filed a criminal defamation complaint against BJP leader Kirit Somaiya before the court of Mulund Metropolitan Magistrate for posting tweets against him.
Sanjay Raut has urged the court to take cognizance of the tweets under Section 499 and Section 500 IPC. He has also prayed the court to summon the BJP leader.
In his complaint, Raut has alleged that the tweets were made by Somaiya to malign the reputation of Raut.
"I say that, I was shocked and surprised when I noticed tweets of the accused spread by him on his Twitter account with defamatory statements, which are completely unwarranted statements that amount to defamation against me. In statements, which have been noticed by me and many of my followers and other people on his Twitter account, he has caused and made defamatory statements against me without having any strict proof; thereby, he is trying to malign my reputation in the eyes of society and public at large," the complaint reads.
Further, the complaint states that statements were made without any proof and that the statements are destructive and offensive.
"The act of the accused indulging into making such continuous libelous and slanderous statements on Twitter with malafide is just to defame my character thereby, tarnishing, and disrupting my goodwill; which I have earned in society after lots of hard work over a period since last so many years. The accused is making such statements on his Twitter page mentioned hereinabove are completely offensive and destructive; it is divulging into character assassination without any proof," the complaint states.
Raut has alleged that he has suffered tremendous embarrassment and mental agony because of defamatory statements made by Somaiya and that it has brought humiliation in the eyes of the public at large. Further, he alleged that the tweets made by Somaiya are likely to harm and have caused harm to Raut's reputation.
