Court dismissed the appeal filed by the couple in relation to their conviction stemming from a 2009 incident where they had alleged to have assaulted a school principal

A Delhi Court on Monday dismissed the appeal filed by AAP MLA Abdul Rehman and his wife against their conviction in a case of assaulting a government school principal in 2009.

Special Judge Geetanjali Goel of the Rouse Avenue Court dismissed the appeal filed by the couple in relation to their conviction stemming from a 2009 incident where they were alleged to have assaulted a school principal.

Notably, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal had previously found the couple guilty on April 29, of assault and criminal intimidation.

However, the ACMM extended a measure of leniency by granting the couple probation for a year, contingent on their commitment to maintaining peace, good behavior, and refraining from any involvement in criminal activities.

In this matter, it is reported that Rehman's wife Asma, as per the prosecution's allegations, physically assaulted Razia Begum, the school principal.

This altercation allegedly transpired due to Begum's refusal to permit Asma's daughter to use a scooter for her daily commute to school and her purported failure to provide adequate parking arrangements for the said vehicle.

Furthermore, Begum had made additional claims against Abdul Rehman and other unidentified individuals. She contended that they unlawfully entered the school premises, issued threats against her life, and employed abusive language with the intention of outraging her modesty.

In a parallel development, the Special Judge also dismissed an appeal filed by Razia Begum herself, who had sought an enhancement of the punishment imposed upon Abdul Rehman and Asma.
