Delhi Court orders man guilty of disrespecting National flag to distribute 20 flags at DSLSA

Synopsis

Mohd. Tariq Azi pleaded guilty and his counsel submitted that Azi had a clean record and felt remorse about his conduct.

A Delhi Court has ordered a man to distribute National flags at the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) office at Patiala House Court. The man pleaded guilty in a case of disrespecting the Flag.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Nabeela Wali directed Mohd. Tariq Azi to provide twenty National flags having dimensions 900x600m as per provisions of Flag Code of India, 2002, to the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA).

After being found prima facie guilty, Mohd Tariq Azi pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, for disrespecting the National flag.

The Counsel for Mohd. Tariq Azi contended that he has clean antecedents and is remorseful of his acts.

Taking a lenient view, Court directed Azi to pay a fine of Rs. 2,000 for the offense under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971.

The court also directed the DSLSA to ensure that Mohd. Tariq Azi distribute these flags at Child Care Institutions/Educational Institutions for Children, including Madarsas under the Delhi Wakf Board and the Observation Home for Centre.

The matter will be next heard on August 16, 2022.
