Synopsis

The Association held an emergency meeting on July 17 and reached a unanimous decision to not organise any function for the judge

In a stunning turn of events, the Oudh Bar Association of the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow bench has taken a decision to not hold a farewell function for Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh, who has been recently transferred to Kerala High Court.

The decision stems from the judge's alleged disrespectful behavior towards lawyers throughout his tenure, causing discontent among the Association member.

The Association held an emergency meeting on July 17 chaired by President Anand Mani Tripathi and supervised by General Secretary Manoj Kumar Mishra to deliberate upon the issue of hosting a farewell/facilitation function for Justice Singh before his departure to Kerala High Court.

As per the resolution passed in the said meeting, the Association was informed by member lawyers that Justice Singh's behavior had not been good towards advocates and he had used abusive words for the Association.

The members claimed that the judge's this conduct has tarnished the reputation of a respected institution like the Oudh Bar Association.

As per the resolution, after deliberating on the matter extensively, the executive of the Association reached a unanimous decision to not hold a farewell function for the judge.

Further, to send a strong statement against the judge's actions, the executive decided that if a full bench meeting is held by the high court administration in honor of Justice Singh, the Association members will not attend the same.

In a decision made on July 12, 2023, the Supreme Court Collegium put forward its recommendation to transfer Justice Singh to the Kerala High Court.

The collegium's decision signifies a significant development in Justice Singh's professional journey as this move came with a notable rejection of his request to be transferred to the high courts of other states such as Delhi, Punjab & Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
