BJP Spokesperson and Senior AAG for state of Assam Nalin S Kohli has filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court seeking direction to the Bureau of Police Research and Development to analyse the connection between easy access of porn over the internet and the increasing number of child sexual abuse cases.

Kohli has drawn the attention of the apex Court over the urgent requirement of safeguard to be implemented to curb the situation giving an example of a case in Assam where a six-year-old girl was raped and murdered and the investigation revealed that the accused are four minor porn addicts who committed the crime as the minor girl refused to watch porn with them.

The plea has sought direction for the authorities of all the state police organisations, to collect data in a time-bound manner on the specific issue of investigations to confirm a link between the viewing of pornographic material and acts of rape and also consider formulating an SOP by its police to include the aspect of viewing of pornographic material while investigating cases of rape and sexual assault.

Kohli has alleged that one of the major reasons for the current situation is that sex education for appropriate sexual behavior is not a part of the education system and is being considered taboo and socially inappropriate.

It has become imperative to collect qualitative data and analyze the same in all the States and Union Territories to determine whether minors watching porn become deviant to commit sexual against women and children.
