NCPCR Summons YouTube India’s Official Over Indecent Acts Portraying Mother & Son

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has summoned YouTube India's Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Mira Chatt, over videos of mother and son that went viral on YouTube.

Chatt has been summoned by the NCPCR after a video went viral on YouTube, portraying an indecent act in which a mother was seen kissing her son.

The summons served by the NCPCR stated that there is an alarming trend on YouTube where challenges such as the "Lip Lock challenge," "Mother & Son challenge," and “Bear hug challenge” are being portrayed.

“WHEREAS the commission has taken cognizance of a matter wherein the commission has observed an alarming trend on YouTube channels where challenges such as "Lip Lock challenge", "Mother & son challenge" and “Bear hug challenge”, portraying potentially Indecent acts involving mothers and sons," the summons stated.

The summons stated that videos involving mothers and sons raise serious concerns about the potential harm that could be inflicted on the well-being of the child.

“This raises serious concerns about the potential harm it could inflict on the child's well-being and safety. Further, these videos have viewership, including minors, which also raises significant concerns,” the summons stated. 

Chatt has been asked to appear before the NCPCR at 4 pm on Monday, the 5th of January, 2024, along with a list of all such challenges running on YouTube and a list of channels on YouTube running such challenges involving minors
