Awhad’s lawyer urged the court to transfer the seven FIRs to a police station in Thane since Awhad is from Thane. He also pointed out that the first FIR was registered in Andheri

The Maharashtra Police on Thursday told the Bombay High Court that the FIR filed against NCP Leader Jitendra Awhad over his remarks on Lord Ram will be clubbed and transferred to Shirdi.

A division bench of the high court comprising Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Shyam Chandak was hearing a petition filed by Awhad seeking to transfer the 7 FIRs filed against him.

After BJP’s Ram Kadam urged the Maharashtra Government to ban alcohol and meat on January 22 on the occasion of Ayodhya’s consecration, Awhad in his speech said that Lord Ram was non-vegetarian. Following this, one of the BJP workers filed a complaint against Awhad.

Subsequently, FIRs were filed in Mumbai, Pune, Thane Urban, Thane Rural, Shirdi, and Yavatmal. Awhad was booked under Section 295A of the IPC

Awhad’s lawyer urged the court to transfer the seven FIRs to a police station in Thane since Awhad is from Thane. He also pointed out that the first FIR was registered in Andheri.

However, the division bench said that it would be the investigators' prerogative to decide where the FIRs will be clubbed and investigated.

Later, an officer of the rank of Special Inspector General of Police made a statement before the high court that all FIRs would be transferred to Shirdi and investigated there.
