According to sources, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday lashed out on Twitter for not abiding by its order. The Court said "either follow the law of the land or face action."

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy was hearing a matter wherein Twitter did not remove comments/posts on twitter written against the judiciary and some High Court judges.

Assistant Solicitor General S.V. Raju, appearing for CBI submitted that such abusive social media posts are still visible on Twitter, despite the court's clear directions for withdrawal.

S.V. Raju said that Twitter has not removed content from people residing in India and declaring nationality with foreign country. He further submitted that Facebook and YouTube do not indulge in such practices.

The Court asked Twitter to explain why ‘cease and desist’ orders must not be initiated before the next hearing. It also stressed that Twitter can't play "hide and seek" with Indian law and should abide by the law of the land if it wants to operate on Indian soil.

The matter is set to be heard next on 7th February, 2022.
