In December last year, Beeru from Bahraich was taken to Panipat by his cousins. They said he worked at one Mr. Amit's Kothi for five months. However, he went missing in April 2024
The Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench on May 21, 2024, directed the DGP of Haryana to ensure that the Station House Officer of Chandni Bagh, Panipat, makes all-out efforts to locate a 13-year-old missing boy.
The bench of Justice Mohd. Faiz Alam Khan also sought a detailed report, including documentary evidence, of all actions taken to find the missing child.
The order was passed in a habeas corpus petition filed by missing child Beeru's mother on his behalf.
Beeru, hailing from a village in District Bahraich, was brought to District Panipat by his cousin brothers in December, 2023. According to the cousins, he worked at one Mr. Amit's residence for five months. However, on April 2, 2024, the boy reportedly obtained permission from his employer to visit his home, but his cousins later informed his parents that he was missing.
The news shocked the impoverished family, who belong to the scheduled castes.
The mother of the child sought help from the Superintendent of Police, District Bahraich, and the Station House Officer of Police Station Huzurpur, District Bahraich, urging immediate action. Despite filing a written complaint on May 6, 2024, no action was taken.
Therefore, the mother moved the high court alleging that her child had been unlawfully detained by his cousin brothers.
During the proceedings, the police station Huzoorpur, district Bahraich, informed the court that in pursuance of the information given by one of the cousin brother of the missing child, a missing report had been registered at police station Chandni Bagh, Panipat, Haryana and efforts were being made to trace the boy.
Taking note of the same, court issued direction to the SHO, Chandni Bagh, Panipat, Haryana to locate the boy. Court also ordered the Senior Registrar of the high court to immediately transmit a copy of the order to the D.G.P., Haryana for compliance.
The matter will be next taken up on June 14, 2024.
