Acting Chief Justice Manmohan of the Delhi High Court has issued a warning to lawyers contemplating protests on court premises regarding the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The cautionary remarks came in response to a call for protest by the Aam Aadmi Party's legal cell following Kejriwal's detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy.
In his address, Justice Manmohan emphasized the gravity of the situation, highlighting the potential repercussions of staging protests within the court's premises. He underscored that such actions could lead to severe consequences, stressing that courts must not be obstructed or impeded in their functioning. Justice Manmohan reiterated the fundamental principle that courts must remain accessible and open to all individuals seeking legal recourse, and any attempt to disrupt this process would not be tolerated.
In response to the growing tensions and calls for protests, the Bar Council of India also issued a press release urging lawyers to refrain from engaging in any form of agitation related to Arvind Kejriwal's arrest. The Council emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the legal system and avoiding actions that could undermine public confidence in the judiciary.
Amidst these developments, Acting Chief Justice Manmohan's warning resonated as a guiding principle. His message reiterated the imperative of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that legal processes proceed without hindrance or interference.
