The Angadia Association in their complaint had alleged that the suspended DCP had tried to extort money from them and had demanded Rs. 10 lakh from angadia’s for allowing them to run their business.

A Single Judge Bench of Justice Bharathi Dangre has confirmed the anticipatory bail granted to the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Saurabh Tripathi in the Angadia Extortion Scam Case.

The IPS officer had moved the vacation bench and on November 4, interim protection was granted to him by a single judge bench of Justice N.R Borkar.

Tripathi had moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail after the Sessions Court had refused to grant him any relief.

Justice Bharathi Dangre released the IPS officer on a personal bond of Rs. 25000 with two sureties and asked the suspended DCP to cooperate with the investigation.

The case pertains to complain which was made by the Angadia Association in December last year to a senior police officer alleging that the DCP, Saurabh Tripathi had demanded a bribe of Rs. 10 lakh per month to allow Angadias to run their business.

The Public Prosecutor Veera Shinde informed the court that Tripathi appeared before the investigating officer thrice after the vacation bench had directed him to cooperate with the investigation.

Justice Dangre granted pre-arrest bail to Tripathi after the prosecution did not press to oppose the anticipatory bail plea.

Tripathi had argued before the High Court that he was falsely implicated in the case and that he was not named in the FIR when the FIR was registered. He also submitted before the High Court that the sessions court had erred in refusing interim relief to Tripathi.

Earlier, when Tripathi’s plea was rejected by the sessions court in March, he had moved the sessions court again seeking pre-arrest bail on the grounds that other accused were granted bail
