[AQIS Conspiracy Case] “Affiliations with Al-Qaeda”: NIA files chargesheet against accused persons before Special Court in Bengaluru

Synopsis

Allegedly, in collusion with Al- Qaeda, the accused sent youth to Kashmir for terrorist training. 

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on January 19, 2023, filed chargesheet against two accused in NIA Special Court, Bengaluru. The accused allegedly had affiliations with Al-Qaeda in sending youth to Kashmir and Khorasan province of Afghanistan, to undergo terrorist training.

The accused persons namely, Akthar Hussain Laskar @ Md Hussain and Abdul Aleem Mondal @Md Juba @ Md Jubah have been charged under Sections 120B, 121A, 153A, and 153B of IPC and Sections 13, 18, 38, and 39 of the UA (P) Act, 1967.

As per the NIA, press release the case was initially registered on July 24, 2022, at Thilaknagar police station, Bengaluru City, and later re-registered by NIA on August 30, 2022.

Investigations revealed that the two accused had ties to Al-Qaeda, a banned terrorist organization. They also communicated with online handlers in other countries via end-to-end encrypted communication platforms. Based on the instructions of online handlers, the accused attempted to recruit youth to wage war against India, and they planned to travel to Afghanistan's Khorasan Province for terrorist training.

“During investigations, a lot of incriminating Jihadi materials were recovered at the instance of the accused”, the NIA press release read.
