Bar Council Slams Officials Over Protocol Lapse During CJI Gavai’s Mumbai Visit

The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa on Tuesday passed a resolution demanding action against officials responsible for a protocol lapse during Chief Justice of India B. R. Gavai’s first visit to Mumbai on May 18 after his oath ceremony.
A Supreme Court statement issued from New Delhi on the same day quoted CJI Gavai describing the lapse as a “trivial issue” that should not be blown out of proportion and suggested the matter be closed.
The Supreme Court release also stated that all those involved had expressed regret over the incident.
Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa, CJI B.R. Gavai had pointed to the absence of the state's Chief Secretary, Director General of Police or the city police commissioner to receive him.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also echoed the remarks made by Chief Justice of India on protocol, stating that adherence to protocol is "fundamental" and must be respected across institutions.
