The Bombay High Court has granted bail to ex-cop Sachin Waze in a corruption case involving Maharashtra's former Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh.

A division bench of Justice MS Sonak and Justice Jitendra Jain heard Waze's bail plea. During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General Raja Thakare informed the court that the central government had no objection to granting bail to Waze in this case.

However, Waze will remain in jail due to his involvement in the Antilia Bomb Scare Case, which was filed against him by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Waze argued that he should be granted bail in the corruption case as his co-accused, Anil Deshmukh, had already been granted bail by the Bombay High Court.

He argued that despite turning an approver in the case, he remained in jail, which violated his fundamental rights. He claimed that keeping him incarcerated after his cooperation was unjust and defeated the purpose of the pardon granted to him.

Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had opposed Waze's bail plea, stating that he had not yet recorded his statement, which was a critical reason to keep him in custody.

While granting bail, the Bombay High Court allowed Waze to withdraw his petition challenging the constitutionality of provisions that prevent arrested individuals from seeking bail after becoming an approver.

In his plea, Waze emphasized that despite turning approver, he had been imprisoned for two years, thus undermining the very objective of his pardon.
