Roshan was duped by two people claiming to be CBI Officers who had taken Rs. 50 Lakhs from him in settlement of a complaint against him.
A Single Judge Bench of RG Achavat of the Bombay High Court has recently issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation in an appeal filed by filmmaker Rakesh Roshan for the recovery of Rs. 20 Lakh out of 50 Lakh from the CBI.
In 2012, Roshan was duped by two accused who had disguised as CBI personnel and had taken 50 lakhs from him as a settlement in a case. After Roshan became suspicious, he filed a complaint with Anti-Corruption Bureau. The two accused were arrested and it was found that they had duped other film stars too. Allegedly, the money recovered from the duo also included Rs. 50 Lakh which was taken from Roshan
In 2012, Roshan filed an application before the trial court seeking return of Rs. 50 Lakh. The trial court allowed him to withdraw 30 Lakhs on depositing an indemnity bond of Rs. 50 lakh.
Roshan withdrew his Rs. 30 Lakh in 2014; however, the trial was not concluded. Subsequently, in 2020 he filed an application before the trial court to withdraw the remaining 20 lakhs but the same was rejected on the ground that he was seeking a review of the 2012 order for which the limitation lapsed and the order had attained finality.
Rakesh Roshan then filed an appeal before the Bombay High Court against the order of the trial court rejecting his plea. In his appeal before the High Court, Roshan stated that the money was with the trial court since 2012 and the trial was yet to be concluded.
