Synopsis

The high court was hearing a plea filed by Mika Singh for quashing of the FIR. Mika Singh informed the court that Rakhi and he have amicably resolved the issue.

A division bench of the Bombay High Court comprising Justice AS Gadkari and Justice SG Dige on Thursday quashed a First Information Report file against singer Mika Singh in a molestation case by Rakhi Sawant.

Sawant's lawyer informed the court that she had consented to quash the FIR.

In 2006, Actor Rakhi Sawant filed a molestation case against singer Mika Singh after he allegedly forcibly kissed her at his birthday party, which took place at a restaurant in Mumbai suburbs. Singh was booked for offences under Sections 354 (molestation) and 323 (assault) of the Indian Penal Code.

Singh had approached a sessions court for anticipatory bail, which was granted on June 17, 2006. However, the case had been pending for the past 17 years, with charges yet to be framed against Singh.

During the earlier hearings before the high court, Sawant's lawyer, advocate Ayush Pasbola, informed the division bench that Sawant's affidavit was misplaced by the registry of the high court and was untraceable. However, he said that she had no objection to quashing the FIR as the two parties had resolved their differences.

Advocate Falguni Brahmabhat, who appeared for Singh, stated that the case had been unresolved for the past 17 years, and Singh and Sawant had buried the hatchet and became friends. She added that the chargesheet had already been filed against Singh, but charges were yet to be framed.

On Thursday, after Rakhi Swant filed a fresh affidavit and gave her consent for quashing the FIR, the court allowed the same.
