BS-VI Vehicles: Supreme Court to Hear Plea on July 28 Against Delhi-NCR Lifespan Limit

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear a petition challenging the Centre’s move to impose an end-of-life period on BS VI-compliant vehicles in the National Capital Region.
The Bench of Chief Justice of India B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran scheduled the matter for July 28.
The matter was mentioned in the morning today. The petitioner’s counsel sought urgent listing, arguing that the government cannot override the Supreme Court’s existing directions on vehicular emission norms.
“The limits for curbing vehicular pollution in Delhi have already been laid down by this Court. The government cannot unilaterally revise those,” the counsel submitted.
The plea questions the legality of capping the lifespan of BS VI vehicles at 15 years for petrol and 10 years for diesel variants, arguing that such restrictions are arbitrary given the vehicles’ advanced emission control technologies.
