The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Monday informed the Bombay High Court that the BJP MP’s movie Emergency’ could be released after certain cuts.

This submission was made by Dr Abhinav Chandrachud before a division bench comprising Justice BP Colabawalla and Justice Firdosh Pooniwalla.

Advocate Sharan Jagtiani, representing Zee Studios, informed the bench that he would need to take instructions on the matter. Accordingly, the bench adjourned the hearing to the following Monday.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Zee Studios, claiming that the CBFC had arbitrarily withheld the censor certificate after issuing it.

Earlier, Dr Abhinav Chandrachud had informed the bench that the matter was referred to the revising committee, which was in the process of deciding on the movie.

The bench directed the revising committee to make and communicate its decision to Zee Studios and the court by September 25.

During earlier hearings, the bench had questioned whether the ruling party was acting against its own BJP MP, Kangana Ranaut, who is the actress and co-producer of the movie.

Various protests emerged from the Sikh community after the trailer was released, with protestors alleging that the movie was anti-Sikh and should not be released.

The Bombay High Court bench had directed the CBFC to consider the representations of the protestors and decide whether to release the certificate or not.
