The collegium, headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, had recommended the transfer of Justice Chandra Dhari Singh in November 2024 and the transfer of Justice Yashwant Varma in March 2025.
The Ministry of Law and Justice have passed notifications transferring Justice Chandra Dhari Singh and Justice Yashwant Varma to the Allahabad High Court.
Justice Chandra Dhari Singh, who previously served as a Judge of the Delhi High Court, was transferred to the Allahabad High Court. “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Chandra Dhari Singh, Judge, Delhi High Court, to be a Judge of Allahabad High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Allahabad High Court”, the notification read.
Similarly, Justice Yashwant Varma, who also held office as a Judge of the Delhi High Court, was transferred to the Allahabad High Court. The notification, dated March 28, read “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Yashwant Varma, Judge, Delhi High Court, to be a Judge of Allahabad High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Allahabad High Court”.
Justice Chandra Dhari Singh He completed his law degree from Delhi University in 1993. He enrolled as an advocate on July 20, 1994, and practiced in the Supreme Court of India as an Advocate-on-Record.
He handled and argued cases related to service law, labor laws, electricity laws, excise and customs, contractual obligations, suits, complaint cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, arbitration, educational matters, and other corporate and industry-related issues.
He served as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Chhattisgarh and as Standing Counsel for multiple states, including Madhya Pradesh (from 2005 until his elevation), Uttar Pradesh (from 2012 until his elevation), and Jharkhand (from 2005 to 2007). Additionally, he held the position of Senior Panel Counsel for the Union of India and represented various institutions such as the University of Lucknow (from 2006 until his elevation), Steel Authority of India Ltd., the Supreme Court of India, the High Court of Madhya Pradesh (Jabalpur), the High Court of Chhattisgarh, the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Hindustan Copper Ltd., Indian Tourism Development Corporation, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the Airports Authority of India, and Coal India Ltd. before the Supreme Court.
He was appointed as an Additional Judge on September 22, 2017, took oath as a Permanent Judge on September 6, 2019, and was transferred to the Delhi High Court on October 11, 2021.
Justice Yashwant Varma Born on 6 January 1969 in Allahabad, he pursued a B.Com (Honours) degree at Hansraj College, Delhi University. Rewa University, Madhya Pradesh, conferred upon him an LLB degree, following which he enrolled as an Advocate on 8 August 1992.
As an advocate at the Allahabad High Court, he engaged in a diverse practice, handling matters related to constitutional law, labour and industrial legislations, corporate laws, taxation, and allied legal fields. He served as Special Counsel for the Allahabad High Court from 2006 until his elevation. Additionally, he held the position of Chief Standing Counsel for the State of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 until August 2013, when the Court designated him as a Senior Advocate.
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on 13 October 2014 and took the oath as a Permanent Judge of the same Court on 1 February 2016. Subsequently, he was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Delhi on 11 October 2021.
