Ansari was found guilty under section 428, 467, 468, 120B of the Indian Penal Code and section 30 of the Arms Act

On Wednesday, a Special MP/MLA Court in Varanasi handed down a life imprisonment verdict to Uttar Pradesh's gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari in a 36-year-old case involving forged arms licenses. The court had convicted Ansari on Tueday and posted the matter for March 13 for the quantum of punishment pronouncement.

In June 1987, Ansari applied for a double barrel gun license from the district magistrate of Ghazipur. The license was later obtained through forged signatures of both the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police.

In December 1990, the CB-CID uncovered this fraudulent activity, prompting the filing of a complaint with the police. Subsequently, based on this complaint, a case was registered against five individuals, including Mukhtar Ansari, at a police station in Ghazipur.

Ansari has been found guilty under section 428 (mischief), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and section 30 of the Arms Act.

Ansari has previously been convicted in multiple criminal cases, ranging from kidnapping and gangster activities to criminal intimidation and murder.

Recently, a plea was filed before the Supreme Court by son of Mukhtar Ansari alleging "grave danger and a conspiracy" within the state establishment to eliminate him in Banda jail, where he is currently lodged.
