Delhi court directs extradition of British national to stand trial for rape, sexual assault charges

The Patiala House court has directed the extradition of a British citizen accused of rape and sexual assault of three women.
Judge Pranav Joshi has requested Union of India to extradite one Naijil Paul to the Government of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for standing trial of the indictment charges against him before the High Court of Judiciary at Glasgow, Scotland through diplomatic channel.
"A copy of this report be sent to Union of India through Sh. Yogendra Pal, Under Secretary, MEA...", the order dated June 9, 2025 stated.
Paul has been accused of rape, sexual assault, and indecent communication involving three women. he came to India after charges were framed against him in Scotland.
"Till the time the formalities of extradition are completed, FC Naijil Paul shall remain in judicial custody in Tihar Jail complex", Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pranav Joshi has further ordered.
The court's order further states that the Jail Superintendent is to produce the foreign citizen before the concerned Court/Duty JMFC through VC after every 7 days till he is extradited to the Government of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
