Delhi HC Asks Delhi Police to Probe Threats to Congress Leader Udit Raj

The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Delhi Police to assess the potential threats received by Congress leader Udit Raj after he made certain statements critical of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati during a press conference.
A bench led by Justice Ravinder Dudeja was hearing a plea moved by Congress leader Udit Raj seeking protection from Delhi Police because of the threats he has been receiving after the press conference.
The court was today told by the Delhi Police that the investigation in the present matter has been going on.
Weighing in the contentions, the bench directed the SHO and beat officers to ensure strict vigilance and to maintain regular contact. Accordingly, it disposed of the petition.
The controversy arose from statements made by Congress leader Udit Raj during a press conference against Mayawati in Lucknow on 17th February, wherein he stated that Mayawati strangled the social justice system, and the time has come to strangle her.
Following the said remarks, the Congress leader started receiving threats. However, later in an X post, he, clarifying his stand, stated that he was surprised that BSP supporters do not even have the ability to think.
While referring to his statement, he explained that by saying Mayawati had ‘strangled’ the movement and that it was time to ‘strangle’ her, he meant the public should identify her true nature and should stop supporting her.
