Delhi HC Directs BCI To Resolve Issue Concerning Minimum Stipend Of Junior Lawyers Within Six Weeks

Synopsis

The PIL was initiated by a lawyer, Simran Kumari, on January 27, seeking payment of the minimum stipend, while claiming that no action was taken on her representation.

The Delhi High Court, on Thursday, directed the Bar Council of India (BCI) to resolve the representation concerning the minimum stipend of junior lawyers within six weeks. 

The bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, while disposing of the petition, held “The court directs the Bar Council of India to decide on the petitioner's representation as promptly as possible, preferably within six weeks, in accordance with the law”. 

Advocate Preet Pal Singh, representing the BCI, informed that the representation had been discussed in the last meeting of the lawyers' body but was postponed. He assured that the BCI would address and resolve the representation accordingly.
