Bawania, who is involved in the jail‑van murder case, had moved High Court seeking interim bail to visit his ailing wife

The Delhi High Court on Monday, June 30, 2025, granted one-day custody parole to jailed gangster Neeraj Sehrawat, alias Neeraj Bawania, who is involved in a high-profile jail-van murder case, to allow him to meet his ailing wife.

Bawania, who has been in custody since 2015, had approached the High Court seeking interim bail to take care of his wife, who is currently admitted to the ICU of Mehta Hospital in Pandav Nagar.

A bench led by Justice Manoj Jain granted one-day custody parole to Bawania for July 1, 2025, between 10 am and 4 pm, strictly to meet his wife and sign the required surgical consent papers.

The Jail Superintendent has been directed to make adequate security arrangements, considering the high-risk nature of the accused.

The court also directed that Bawania not interact with anyone except his wife and the attending doctor.

Senior Advocate N. Hariharan, along with Advocate Siddharth Yadav, appeared for Bawania. On the other hand, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Lakshay Khanna appeared for the State.

Initially, Senior Advocate Hariharan argued for interim bail keeping in view the deteriorating condition of Bawania’s wife and the absence of any family member to care for her as well as to sign the necessary documents for her surgery.

The senior counsel later agreed to limit the relief sought to one-day custody parole, stressing that the surgery was imminent and that Bawania's presence was critical.

Opposing the plea, APP Lakshay Khanna argued that Bawania is a high-risk prisoner with a strong possibility of absconding. He also pointed to Bawania’s criminal antecedents and noted that his regular bail had earlier been rejected after due consideration.

Notably, Bawania is accused in the high-profile jail-van murder case, where two undertrial prisoners were allegedly strangled inside a prison transport van in New Delhi.
